With our next release of Open-Realty we are going to be moving to version 2.5 and will be finished with the 2.4.x versions of Open-Realty.

2.5 will be a substantial upgrade over previous versions and that is why we have made the decision to move to the Minor version from .4 to .5. There are the usual small bug fixes however here are some of the features we are working on for 2.5:

File Attachments – This is probably the biggest new feature in 2.5 and one that has been requested for quite some time so hopefully this will make a lot of people very happy. We are implementing the File Attachment system for listings and after some consideration also for agents. Agents will be able to upload files to their listings or profiles such as PDF documents, Video files, Audio files, Word documents, ZIP files and any other file extensions that are configured by the site admin. These files will be downloadable from either links or a drop down menu that will be placed on the listing pages or agent detail pages. In addition to the basic file attachment functionality that will be built into Open-Realty this new feature should open up a lot of options and abilities for addon developers.

Other features we are working on for 2.5 include:

  • A NEW default site template for a total of 6 new free templates added to the Open-Realty distribution. You can help choose the new default template by making your vote on this forum thread: Open-Realty Template Contest
  • Form Field size limits
  • Tool Tips for Listing and User Form Fields
  • Send a forgotten Username to the registered email address
  • Templated Next/Prev navigation
  • Main image usable on the search results
  • Ability for admin to change members into agents or vice versa

These are just some of the many features we are working on for 2.5, a more complete list can be found by checking the bug and feature trackers linked from the forums. Also, make sure to get any bug reports in as soon as possible to ensure they get fixed for the 2.5 release. If you have any suggestions on features we are working on, please feel free to post comments to the tasks on the feature tracking system.

With Open-Realty adding the Agents being able to upload files to their listings or profiles such as PDF documents will be great. With the advent of the UK having the Home Information Pack (HIPs) became compulsory on August 1st 2007 for all properties with four or more bedrooms and for 3 bedrooms since 10th September. http://www.homeinformationpacks.gov.uk
This can now be added by the agent for selected property. Great :)
Ability for admin to change members into agents or vice versa is a very good for Open-Realty too as there was no way of doing this in 2.4.X. Keep up the great work guys Open-Realty is Number 1 thank you.

Do you have a release date for 2.5 yet?

I’m pretty confused as to how those six templates are the finalists…None of them has much polish.

I’m glad you’ll be adding file uploads; I had to create a whole uploading addon in order to satisfy a client.

Thanks for your great product; open source is a vital thing to keep going.

Great when are we going to see this release. I can’t wait to try it. Especially the Agents module for Open-Realty. Thanks in advance to the developers for their great work. We will also be able to give them back something in the near future.

Ya, am also looking for release date of 2.5, it is interesting to see new features. By the way, I have already written code to attach PDF files with any listing (but with limitation that just one PDF per listing could be uploaded) and then uploaded PDF (if available for any listing) is shown on the view listing detail page…

if i have an older version that was installed with fantastico can i upgrade? i like the ease of doing an automatic installation with fantastico. also are there any templates that can be purchased for the software?

The release of 2.5 is scheduled for April, I don’t have an exact date yet..

To the questions of updates, you should use the Update method described in the Open-Realty documentation at http://wiki.open-realty.org/Install_guide#Installation_.26_Upgrade_Guide

Fantastico is not run by us, they typically update their installer shortly after new releases however.

Any hints on the 2.5 release date? I’m about to develop a new site and the new features would come in very handy.

Great work so far guys, what a brilliant program. But, can i ask… please please include a secure “contact us” form on the contact page in version 2.5. Variable user fields for the form congigurable in the admin area would be great too. I have spent hours trying to get a secure captcha form to work to no avail. I’m very surprised there is already a good one for the “contact agents” in the form of a pop up, but not one for the web owner or site admin. many thanks so far.
